Penllech Coastcare is a Keep Wales Tidy (KWT) volunteer group based and focused on
the northern coastline of the Lleyn Peninsula Gwynedd North Wales. The group undertakes
marine litter monitoring; beach clean ups; and reports on marine wildlife strandings
The group has close links with the Marine Conservation Society undertaking marine
litter monitoring and surveys; with Seasearch, Marine Mammal strandings, and the
SAC Turning the Tide marine litter awareness projects.
The Penllech Coastcare Group is a voluntary Keep Wales Tidy group . The group was
established in 2002 with help with KWT funding. The group now has over 200 registered
on its mailing list and is open to all who would like to be involved.
The aims of the group are to encourage local and visitor involvement; increase public
awareness of the the effects of marine litter, pollution, and other threats to the
coasts natural beauty and wildlife both above and below the water.
The group networks with other local groups ; it aims to proactively involve walkers,
climbers, shore fishermen, and those making more of a splash in the water : surfers,
canoeists, sailors, fishermen, and divers. We aim to demonstrate how we can all
be part of the solution to the problem of marine litter.
The Lleyn Peninsula Special Area of Conservation (SAC), is one of 5 wholly marine
SACs within Welsh waters; much of the coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty and a Heritage Coast.
